Designed as part of a book design course, this is a collection of short stories set across different countries and times. The task was to design a book that could hold a range of different narratives while still feeling like one thing.
The ornamental drop caps and calligraphic dividers came from wanting the book to feel like it had its own world. Each story opens with a hand-drawn drop cap that was later digitised, and the calligraphic elements work as dividers between sections. Set against a clean sans-serif, the contrast between the decorative and the functional reflects the tone of the stories themselves, which shift between the lyrical and the blunt.
The typography and layout were treated as part of the reading experience, not just a frame around the text.
