A logo created for Kumu Art Museum's 20th anniversary, as part of a collaboration between the Estonian Academy of Arts and the Estonian Art Museum.
Kumu wanted the anniversary logo to be designed by students the same age as the museum, 20 years old. Second-year graphic design students were commissioned to develop concepts, and our design was selected. The project was mentored by Aimur Takk, Ott Kagovere, and Ivar Sakk.
The brief asked for something fresh and youthful, but clean enough to work across every format. The goal was to keep Kumu's existing visual identity intact and layer in the anniversary element without disrupting it. The logo centres around the message "Kumu brings people together", the idea that art connects people and that Kumu is where that happens. The fluid handwritten "20" ties Kumu's and the Estonian Art Museum's identities together in a way that feels recognisable but still new.
The logo runs across posters, social media, merchandise and publications throughout 2026. The whole process took 78 hours, starting from a first-lecture brainstorm where we drew close to 200 rough logo sketches on the studio whiteboard, through to final delivery.
